Oh, hi there. It's been a while, huh? Like...a year and a half. What can I say? PLL went so off the rails that it seemed more work than it was worth to do any kind of draft diary/recap for the final season. I also started recapping Riverdale for Teen Vogue in 2017 (#selfpromo: check "Things I Wrote" above to read those recaps), and that took up a lot of my recap/watch-live-and-write-about-it energies. Also also, 2017 was kind of a crap year, you know? A fucking terrible year in many ways, though not so terrible in some other ways (vague much?). So...it was hard to find enough energy and creative juice to write, especially for my own blog, which doesn't pay (#realtalk: there are only so many hours in a day and I tend to come down on the side of wanting to spend my writing time on the paid pursuits, you dig?).
ANYWAY. All of that is to say, I'm trying this blog thing again. It may not be super consistent and there may not be a cohesive theme to my ramblings, but whatever: I'm back, babydoll! (This is a phrase from a very early episode of How I Met Your Mother that has been stuck in my head forever and ever, amen.)
SG & I watched Julie & Julia last night (a few years late, I know, I know) and I came away thinking: 1) Meryl Streep is hi-lar-ious; 2) Boning a duck truly looks disgusting and I am certain I will never attempt it; 3) I should blog again. So here I am! Not mastering the art of French cooking or anything, but mastering the art of...talking to myself on the internet. Which we've all been mastering for quite some time now, actually.
One of the reasons we selected Julie & Julia is that I've challenged myself to engage with at least one new piece of art (TV, book, movie, magazine...) every day in December. NO RE-WATCHES OR RE-READS ALLOWED. And so far, with the exception of Christmas, which was a lost day of decorating the tree, baking cookies, gifting gifts, and watching the Knicks (Christmas in my family is truncated into one day of decorating, gifting, baking, eating, etc.), I am meeting said challenge with gusto. I'll post the whole list (because of course I'm keeping a list, who do you think I am?) when the month is over. And then I'll need to figure out how to keep the spirit of the challenge going in 2018 (because one a day is a bit too hard once I'm back to living my normal, everyday, not-taking-a-bunch-of-days-off-around-the-holidays life). Any ideas re: how to achieve that goal? Let me know, y'all.
And now...off to start The Crown S2!
